Mommy's Reading Break

I'll read almost anything if it sounds good, but I tend to read mostly YA, and a lot of those are paranormal or dystopian. I have started to branch out into more contemporary lately.

Currently reading

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Eat, Brains, Love
Jeff Hart
Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1)
Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl, Kevin Collins

Unravel Me

Unravel Me - This is one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever had to write spoiler-free. I want to talk about everything! When we left Juliette at the end of Shatter Me, she was feeling confident and ready to face what was coming next. However, when Unravel Me picks up two weeks later, she seems to be retreating back into herself, back to the shy, self-conscious girl that she was while she was in isolation. It was really interesting to me to see how Juliette has regressed and why. I also enjoyed seeing her try to reintegrate into a society after being locked up and isolated for so long.I really loved the pacing of Unravel Me. I felt like my emotions were all over the place while I was reading it. There were funny, intense, heart-stopping, heart-wrenching, and sexy scenes. I can’t really elaborate without spoiling it, but just let me tell you that Unravel Me had so many emotions! It also left me confused. Due to several different moments and revelations throughout Unravel Me, I don’t even know what team I’m on. Team Adam or Team Warner. There were just too many intense moments to tell!I thought that the growth of the characters was really interesting in Unravel Me. Juliette, obviously, had the most growth. Though she regresses some at the beginning, she gains her confidence little by little as the story progresses. Then there’s a critical conversation with Kenji that leads to her finally realizing that it’s time for her to grow up, and she does. I really loved her through the second half of the book. Adam kind of goes downhill a little bit for me in Unravel Me, but I think he’ll pick himself back up in the final book. Kenji is always good for a laugh, but he also has some really important moments. There is a lot of hype around chapter sixty-two, specifially from Tahereh Mafi, and it was definitely a good one. But my favorite was chapter thirty-six. We get to see a different side of Juliette, and it had me cheering her on! Also, very shortly after this chapter (in chapter thirty-eight) there is a HUGE revelation that I thought was just amazing and really puts a different spin on the whole story! I won’t spoil it, but I thought it was awesome!I won’t say that Unravel Me ends on a cliffhanger because it ties up most of the story within it, but it definitely sets up book 3 enough that I am almost wishing I didn’t read Unravel Me yet because the last book isn’t expected to be released until NEXT February! Sounds like a reread is in my future! In short, I LOVED Unravel Me! I thought it was much better than Shatter Me, the characters were more developed, and it had so many emotions. I would definitely recommend it!*This review is also posted on my blog
